EYFS at Tregolls

At Tregolls it is our intent that we know each child and ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all of our children.

Our EYFS curriculum enables our children to continually demonstrate their ability to:

  •               Play and explore
  •               Learn actively
  •               Create and think critically

You may see children interacting alone or with their peers, adults carefully observing or in positive interactions with the children; supporting their learning through sustained shared thinking, building on what children already know and focusing on the next steps of learning. We don’t expect every day to be the same and value the uniqueness of each child and each cohort.

The prime areas are a focus in the first instance; ensuring learning is child centred, valuing the basic needs of each child and supporting children to become independent thinkers and learners. Adults model how to look after and respect everyone and everything. Adults value and listen to children enabling positive relationships between peers and adults. This supports learners to manage their feelings and behaviour, problem solve and become independent thinking individuals who have the confidence to find things out for themselves and have-a-go, ensuring they have the foundational knowledge and understanding they need for ks1 and beyond. We believe all these things combined are the building blocks for learning.

By the end of EYFS we intend all children to be happy, confident individuals who tackle new challenges with resilience and independence; knowing they are valued and supported as they continue to be life long learners. As children grown older and these skills are developed, we use more direct teaching.

We use development matters to support our curriculum planning at Tregolls alongside the Early Years Statutory Framework. Our aim is for children to be working with the reception objectives throughout the reception year. At the end of the reception year each child's teacher shares their progress and whether they have achieved each of the Early Learning Goals.
