Personal Development

Our Approach to Personal Development

At Tregolls, personal development is woven into every child's journey from Nursery to Year 6. Our carefully designed Aspirations Curriculum ensures that all pupils grow into confident, responsible, and well‑rounded young people. Through purposeful experiences, community engagement, and increasing levels of responsibility, pupils develop essential life skills, character, and a strong sense of identity.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Each year group experiences a rich programme of trips, visits, and real‑world activities that help children make meaningful connections with the wider world. From visiting farms, museums, laboratories and places of worship to exploring beaches, caves and cities, these experiences broaden horizons and encourage curiosity.

Character, Confidence and Independence

As children move through the school, they are given age‑appropriate opportunities that build independence and resilience. Activities such as performing for an audience, staying away from home, navigating using maps, learning first aid, cooking, swimming, and even running a small business help pupils develop important life skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

Every year group includes opportunities for pupils to contribute to school life through roles such as Eco Monitors, Librarians, Reading Buddies, and Pupil Leadership positions. These responsibilities foster teamwork, ownership, and pride, helping children understand the impact they can have on their school community.

Creativity, Culture and Expression

Our curriculum encourages pupils to explore and express themselves through a wide range of creative experiences—painting self‑portraits, creating animations, composing music, choreographing dances, building structures, and performing poetry or drama. These experiences build confidence, imagination, and cultural appreciation.

Health, Wellbeing and Outdoor Learning

Physical and mental wellbeing are promoted at every stage. Gardening, yoga, outdoor cooking, hiking, sport events, fire‑lighting, and adventurous activities like surfing help children build healthy habits and a love for the outdoors. These experiences support emotional resilience and promote an active lifestyle.

Community Connections

Every year includes a clear community link, encouraging children to act ethically and contribute positively—from posting letters and birdwatching to charity fundraising, reducing electricity use, or preparing a family meal. These experiences nurture compassion, social responsibility, and a sense of belonging.

Preparation for the Future

By Year 6, pupils take part in experiences designed to prepare them for secondary school and beyond—developing financial literacy, learning to communicate professionally via email, travelling independently, and reflecting on their aspirations. These opportunities help pupils become confident, capable young citizens ready for the next stage of their education.
