Welcome to Kenwyn Class

At Kenwyn ARB, our priority is supporting the developmental journey of every learner before focusing on academic learning. We plan learning around each child’s Intervention Provision Map (IPM) and individual interests, using small, achievable steps to help them progress.

We have three main topics each year to allow children to fully explore and engage:

• Autumn: Colour and Light

• Spring: Communities and Cultures

• Summer: On the Move

Our curriculum is flexible and hands-on, covering primary subjects, the 7 EYFS areas and the five Engagement Model areas. Learning is sensory-rich and motivating, helping children build foundational skills like motor coordination, attention and social-emotional regulation, which are essential for our children to be able to access learning opportunities. 

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. We use a total-communication approach through the use of Makaton, Widgit symbols, objects of reference, sound buttons and spoken language to ensure every child has a voice.

We also follow evidence-based research, including the Pyramid of Learning, to support sensory, motor and cognitive development, giving every child the best start for lifelong learning.
