Tregolls Curriculum Statement

Tregolls Curriculum Intent

At Tregolls our values of respect, unity, determination and kindness underpin our learning, interactions and choices. These values encapsulate the vision that we have for our pupils’ learning and their character development at Tregolls and beyond.

  •       Respect we are considerate of the feelings, wishes and rights of ourselves and others. We appreciate and celebrate diversity and are inclusive of all.
  •       Unitywe collaborate as a team of colleagues, parents/carers and pupils to achieve our goals.
  •       Determinationwe collaborate as a team of colleagues, parents/carers and pupils to achieve our goals.
  •       Kindness we are thoughtful and helpful towards ourselves, others, our community and the environment around us.

Interpersonal relationships are central to our pedagogy. We use a Trauma Informed School (TiS) approach to relate to our pupils and develop nurturing relationships and spaces in which they feel safe to thrive. The kindess of our TiS practice is complimented by our clear boundaries and determination for all children to succeed. Personal, social, health economic education (PSHE) is woven into the fabric of everyday school life. This means that it is used systematically and responsively to support children to progress in all areas of learning.

Our ambitious curriculum is carefully structured to build progression of skills and knowledge from Nursery to Year 6. At Tregolls are we determined for our pupils to develop a depth to learning by fostering natural links between subjects and topics. This is supported by a rich reading diet. We know that learning to read unlocks independent learning and we make this a priority for every child. Our carefully planned assemblies, workshops, extra-curricula clubs, trips and fund-raising days further enrich our subject specific knowledge and understanding of the wider world.

Through regular local area trips we want our pupils to develop a sense of space, belonging and community. We are proud to be located in Truro, and indeed Cornwall. We want to learn from our city, explore our cultural heritage and give back to our community. For example, we love working as a team at regular sporting events, representing Tregolls Academy and growing our relationships with other schools.

Finally, we want to celebrate all that we have achieved and continue to achieve. We want our pupils to know that they have a voice and that their voice matters. Our active pupil leadership opportunities offer children  positions of responsibility to model expectations and make positive choices for Tregolls Academy. Our celebration assemblies and performances help children to become confident public speakers and share their learning with their families, visitors and wider community.
