At Tregolls, all children have the right to access, enjoy, be inspired by and create music.
All children have access to a range of instruments and children from year 1 to year 6 have discreet, weekly music lessons which reflects our commitment to a broad curriculum where all children can flourish. We recognise the link between music and academic achievement, life opportunities and social cohesion and as such are committed to high quality music education.
Music is a universal skill and links us all. Children will learn about music from around the world and from difference times and in doing so will learn to respect differences and similarities in styles and musical tastes.
Each child at Tregolls has the opportunity to succeed and exceed in music, embodying determination to learn an instrument, to perform and building a sense of unity in our school and wider community through music.
As well as weekly lessons, we also have weekly singing practise for the whole school, a growing school choir, peripatetic music lessons, live music demos, music linked to topics, and ambitious opportunities for all children to perform through our seasonal shows.
Music Lessons:
Children from Reception to Year 6 receive 1 hour of music learning a week. Music lessons at Tregolls broadly follow the English Model Music Curriculum created by Charanga which meets the National Curriculum objectives for music and is build on the Model Music Curriculum guidance published by the DfE.
In places we have made alterations to the scheme to enhance the musical opportunities for our children.
These changes include:
* First Access Trumpet teaching in Year 3.
*Whole Class Ukulele teaching in Year 4.
*Music through technology using Garage Band in Year 5 and 6.
