History at Tregolls Academy forms an integral part of our topic-based curriculum. We believe the study of History inspires children’s curiosity, encourages them to ask critical questions and enables them to have a better understanding of the society in which they live and that of the wider world.
Children work as historians where they critically analyse different sources of information. We believe this helps children gain a sense of their own identity within a social, political, cultural and economic background. We have ensured our History curriculum, follows a clear progression of skills and knowledge from year 1 to year 6; enabling teachers to signpost links from previous learning and to build on skills learned in a coherent way.
Children learn about significant events and people from the past locally, nationally and globally so that they can shape our future as global citizens. Children explore the theme of legacy as they build links between topics of learning and periods of time studied.
It is our aim that children know and remember characteristics, themes and events from and across different periods of time in history through immersive experiences, trips & visits and carefully planned sequences of lessons and historical topics.
